Coming on the heels of a small airplane crash on Tuesday in Richland, first responders from around the Lake Area, and beyond, are participating today in aircraft rescue firefighting training. Division Training Chief Rob Odenwald, from the Mid-County Fire District, says with several airports and a couple air shows every year, it’s they simply have to have.
So far this year, there have been 11 incidents involving airplanes in Missouri with one fatality. The most recent incidents in the Lake Area occurred in Versailles in December of 2017 and in Osage Beach in October of 2016. Two people died in the Osage Beach incident when the small aircraft went down in a wooded area of the state park.
