Winter weather in the forecast for later this week is delaying the first blast of three that will bring down the Old Hurricane Deck Bridge in Sunrise Beach. The demolition was scheduled for Thursday morning at 11:00, but that will now happen on Friday morning at 9:30. Route 5 over the new Hurricane Deck Bridge will be closed on both directions for 15 minutes on Friday as crews blast a 740 foot section of the old bridge. Traffic on the water will be prohibited in a 15 hundred foot radius around the bridge starting at 9:00 and continuing until 10:00 on Friday morning. Once the area is secure, the span from the north end of the old bridge to the second pier in the water will be blasted and around one million pounds of steel from the truss will be dropped into the Lake. Crews will then sweep the new Hurricane Deck Bridge to clear any debris before reopening the bridge to traffic.
