A proposed change in a state law could make a difference on Lake of the Ozarks. Diane Franklin’s House Bill 2197 seeks to change the punishment for not having sufficient lifejackets on your boat to an infraction with a $25 fine with no court costs. Right now, a boater cited for a lifejacket violation or traveling too fast, too close to a dock faces the same penalty as a person charged with a first time boating while intoxicated offense which is subject to a possible six months in jail and/or a fine up to $500.
