The special prosecutor reviewing the drowning of Brandon Ellingson at the Lake in May of last year while in the custody of the Highway Patrol is stepping down. According to reports, Amanda Grellner is no longer looking into the case due to a conflict of interest. There is no word at this time as to what that conflict might be. In September she declined to press charges against Trooper Anthony Piercy for Ellingson’s death and then announced in January that she was again reviewing the case after receiving new information. Now she’s stepping down and a new prosecutor will soon be appointed to take a fresh look at the case.
