A conclusion in the criminal case stemming from the May, 2014 drowning death of Brandon Ellingson, a 20-year-old from Iowa, will have to wait a while longer. With a recent motion approving a change of judge in the Involuntary Manslaughter case against Anthony Piercy, the upcoming trial later this month has been indefinitely postponed. In the meantime, the Water Patrol Division of the Missouri Highway Patrol continues its review of protocol when it comes to transferring subjects while in custody on the water.
Captain Matt Walz, now Director of the Water Patrol, says he cannot specifically comment on the criminal case. Piercy remains free on a fifty-thousand dollar bond and will now stand trial in front of Circuit Judge Stan Moore when a new trial date is set.
