Under a new Missouri law, many believe that a fight at school or a bullying incident could cause a student to be considered a felon. Under the new law, third degree assault will be considered a class E felony. The definition of third degree assault is causing injury to someone. The new law also specifies a person can be charged with a felony if their bullying or harassment causes emotional distress. It does not specify a minimum age for these charges. The new law goes into effect on January 1st.
