Reaction continues to come in regarding the proposed Rock Island trail. The 145 mile section of unused rail would be converted into a hiking and biking trail that would eventually connect to the Katy trail. However, some landowners are raising concerns about privacy. During a meeting last week in Westphalia, privacy along with concerns over access to land for livestock and biosecurity were brought up. Supporters of the trail believe it would be a boon to the economy. Approval to convert the railway into the trail is under consideration from the U.S. Department of Transportation surface board. The Rock Island trail would run thru several Lake Area communities including Eldon, Versailles, Stover and Cole Camp.
