National Safe Boating Week kicks off tomorrow, Saturday, May 19th:
Rachel Johnson is head of the National Safe Boating Council:
Missouri law requires children under seven to wear a life jacket at all times while on board a boat, and the Water Patrol encourages everyone to wear one.
To kick-off National Safe Boating Week, participants will gather to try to set a world record for the most life jackets worn:
About 500 people die each year in recreational boating accidents. In 2011, 88 percent of them were not wearing life jackets. There were 166 boating accidents in Missouri last year and 19 people were killed.
