An effort to land an international sporting event at Lake of the Ozarks may have some momentum, but officials with the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce say getting the Red Bull Air Race here will take a LOT of work. First and foremost is the challenge of raising the amount of money needed to secure the event…an investment of nearly $5 ½ million. Chamber board member Cory Roberts says it’s a hefty price tag, but the estimated payout is well worth it.
Red Bull staff alone will account for an estimated 3400 room nights at area lodgings. A large chunk of the investment will be spent back into the community through jobs and construction of the course. Red Bull officials have researched and visited the lake and have expressed a desire to come here. Chamber officials say if a deal is made, it would likely begin in 2020 and would involve a multi-year commitment from Red Bull.
