There is an election today in the Lake Area. Voters in the Mid County Fire Protection District will head to the polls with just one question on the ballot. The district is asking for a 12 cent levy increase to be used for day to day fire operations. Fire officials say the money would not be used for new equipment or to hire more firefighters or other personnel. Right now, the district says they have to dip into reserve funds and have done so for the past five years in order to maintain the current level of service. If the measure passes, it would be the first levy increase in the district since it was formed in 1986. The increase would not go into effect until 2015. Polls will be open until 7:00 tonight.
