The legislation would prohibit private sector employees from being required to pay union fees. Senator Luann Ridgeway is carrying the bill.
“With this we are trying to find every tool available to us other than what we have been doing because we clearly have to do something different,” Ridgeway said. “We have tried corporate giveaways, we have tried offering incentives, we have tried so many different things and at best we are treading water.”
A split among Republicans and strong opposition from Democrats left the bill without a vote Monday. It is expected the senate will take up the bill again after the spring break.
