Its official, the Rock Island Trail has been approved. Yesterday (Thursday) afternoon the Surface Transportation Board released it’s decision in a report stating that they were not going to hold any public hearings or approve any requested stays as they found plenty of evidence that the request should be processed. Supporters of the Trail are celebration on their official Facebook page that follows the progress of the trail. It’s up to Ameren and the Missouri Central Railroad to now work with the State of Missouri to finalize the deal. The Rock Island Trail already exists between Windsor and Pleasant Hill, this section approved is between Windsor and a town outside of Union known as Beaufort. The trail would include several Lake area cities like Cole Camp, Stover, Versailles, Eugene, Henley and Meta and could return the central hub of the tracks to the city of Eldon who were already working on their own trail program at the time this was introduced.
