Continued development of the Rock Island Trail across Missouri receives a much-needed financial boost. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has announced the latest round of Doppelt Family Trail grants totaling $100,000 which are being awarded to recipients for various projects in Florida, Pennsylvania, Louisiana and Missouri. The $20,000 earmarked for the Rock Island Trail project in Missouri will be used to rehabilitate two trestles along the corridor which will open up another 43 miles of the trail by connecting Osage, Maries, Gasconade and Franklin counties to St. Louis and the state’s eastern border. Once the overall trail is completed, it’s expected to have an annual impact surpassing $18-million for communities along the 450-mile loop.
