The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Lake of the Ozarks Watershed Alliance volunteers tested 51 sites from the 36 to 60 mile mark, mostly along the Gravois arm. The Environmental Protection Agency single sample safety standard for public swimming is 235 e coli per 1000 milliliters of water. The highest test in August was 39 e coli per 100 milliliters of water. These same coves were tested in June and came back clean. They will also be tested again in October. The overall testing is part of a five year baseline study that began back at the dam three years ago. Once the tests are completed all the way up to Truman Lake, DNR and LOWA hope to have a better idea of how much the lake can be stressed.
