A lawsuit filed earlier this month by Camden County Clerk Rowland Todd against the county commission alleging a violation of 1st Amendment rights is now in a waiting stage. Named in the suit are Presiding Commissioner Greg Hasty, First District Commissioner Beverly Thomas and Second District Commissioner Don Williams. In the suit, Todd is accusing the commission of retaliating against him by segregating certain HR-related duties from his office after he spoke out and questioned spending on the HR department. Hasty, Thomas and Williams were served summonses on the 16th and with a deadline to, appropriately, reply to the court. At that time, the lawsuit will move into the courtroom to, ultimately, be Decided. Hasty, in the meantime, has gone on record saying that he believes the lawsuit has no merit.
