The Osage Beach Fire Department and Kelly’s Port are using a recent accident as a teaching opportunity. Last Friday two people were injured in an explosion while refueling their boat at Kelly’s Port. Luckily the injuries weren’t serious. Now authorities are using the incident as a way to help keep you safer. In a social media post shared by the fire department and Kelly’s Port, they offered the following safety tips to avoid a similar accident:
- always turn on your blower 2-5 minutes after refueling….it’s also recommended to turn it on while you’re fueling up
- never open an engine compartment if there is fire
- if you believe there is a fire, leave the boat immediately
It’s believed Friday’s explosion was caused by not running the blower.
