A public hearing on a proposed water rate increase is being held Monday in Sunrise Beach by the Board of Trustees. This is the second hearing on the controversial issue in which several business owners have voiced their concerns. The original proposal called for a 70 percent increase in the commercial rate. After hearing from businesses, the board held work sessions to find another way to cover the water system expenses and came up with a new proposal which would raise rates 15 percent for both residential and commercial users. Monday public hearing begins at 5:30 pm at the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District Administration building located on Highway 5.
