A School of the Osage graduate will be flying into outer space on Wednesday. 1987 graduate Mike Hopkins will join the Russians as they blast off from Kazakhstan heading toward the International Space station. There Hopkins and his crewmates will stay on the space station until March of 2014. School of the Osage is planning a celebration party with NASA astronaut Scott Tingle as a special guest lecturing students during the day. Hopkins was born in Lebanon on a farm outside of the Richland area is currently married with two sons. One of Hopkin’s greatest achievements before becoming an astronaut was back in 2008 when he was selected to be a special assistant to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
