District officials from School of the Osage give a cool reception and a thumbs down to a request from the Camden County Assessor’s office. The assessor’s office, recently, approached the district to see if there would be any interest in monetarily supplementing a contract with a company called “Cell Tower Solutions” or CTS. CTS is a company out of Athens, Georgia, that goes around assisting county and state assessors to determine fair evaluation on cell, radio and other communication towers within the county. At issue, according to the proposal, is assessed values described as far below actual value which, in turn, affects potential tax revenue for school districts. The cost to the district, if a deal had been approved, would’ve been several thousand dollars to be recouped within a couple years. The main objection by the board of education was having to pay out of district coffers for the county to hire a private company to do a job the county should be able to do itself.
