A hearing was held last week for a bill focused on Lake Area docks. Senate Bill 297 states that any new docks, or currently existing ones changing ownership or being modified, would need to be inspected and meet new code standards. Of those nearly 25,000 docks in the area, around 5,000 are not within a fire district, therefore an inspection for those docks is currently not required. Under the proposed legislation, it would be required. The hearing held last Thursday faced no opposition.
