Emergency workers may soon have the same protections as state workers on the state’s highways. 20th District Senator Jay Wasson of Nixa presented Senate Bill 260 to the Missouri Senate Transportation Committee on Wednesday.
“[In] years past we have done some legislation to strengthen laws for emergency workers, our road workers, state workers on the highways,” Wasson said. “What this does is make those same laws for emergency workers.”
“It’s an effort to increase the protection offered to EMS, fire safety and law enforcement personnel as they create a scene on a motor vehicle.”
The bill defines an active emergency zone as an area that is visibly marked by emergency responders on, or around, a highway, and where an active emergency or incident removal is temporarily occurring.
