Far too many public entities are violating Missouri’s laws regarding closed meetings. That’s according to State Auditor Tom Schweich who has released a report showing about 15 percent of the nearly 300 entities he audited the previous two years had some sort of problem complying with the State’s sunshine law. While that’s better than past audits, Schweich says there is still plenty of room for more improvement. Most of the problems he found dealt with closed meetings where governmental entities either failed to document the reason for meeting secretly, discussed topics they shouldn’t have or neglected to keep adequate minutes.
