Route 5 Driving Surface Upgrade Scheduled to Begin This Fall
LEBANON – The Missouri Department of Transportation has received a large amount of inquiries and road reports regarding Route 5 (Jefferson Avenue) in Lebanon and says a smoother roadway is on the way.
This September, a contractor working for MoDOT will begin the process of replacing the pavement along the outside lanes of Jefferson Avenue from the Route 64 intersection to Commercial Street. This will stabilize the roadway through the winter. The contractor will return in the spring and repave the entire surface of the roadway.
“This roadway has deteriorated at an unforeseen rate. We were able to move this project up in the schedule and have focused on maintaining the roadway until the full replacement can begin,” said Robert Lynch, Area Engineer for Laclede County. “Our maintenance crews have already made improvements around the railroad intersection and are making every effort to address immediate needs, such as potholes, ahead of the pavement replacement this fall.”
Lynch also said that MoDOT appreciates the patience of motorists and encouraged drivers to watch for crews once work begins.
“We have seen an increase in work zone crashes this summer. This work will likely slow down traffic and we ask that drivers help us reverse this trend by watching for work taking place, give workers plenty of room and avoid distractions while behind the wheel.”
MoDOT’s Central District will provide updates on the status and start date of this project through media releases, social media, the Traveler Information Map, and at modot.org/central.
