Residents in Eldon and Jefferson City received a harsh reminder early last spring about the need to be prepared for severe weather in Mid-Missouri when they were hit by a tornado that many have not fully recovered from.
Steve Runnels is a Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Springfield. All this week is Severe Weather Awareness Week. Weather forecasters and news outlets along with emergency management offices will be working to educate people on how to be safe and ready for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and more.
The NWS recommends that you follow forecasts, sign up for alerts, and purchase a NOAA weather radio to help stay ahead of the weather. The statewide tornado drill will take place Tuesday morning, weather permitting.
