A Gravois Mills man originally charged with 13 sex-related felonies involving a child avoids a jury trial set for later this year and will spend the next four years in the department of corrections. 51-year-old Derek Haggen appeared in Morgan County Circuit Court on Monday withdrawing his not guilty plea, instead, entering an Alford Plea on one count each of statutory sodomy and incest. The Alford Plea does not admit guilt but does concede that the state had enough evidence to convict him of the charges. Haggen was sentenced to four years on the sodomy charge and two years on the incest charge with the sentences to be served concurrently. Under terms of the sentence, Haggen will have to stay in prison for the whole four years and be registered as a sex offender plus GPS monitoring once he gets released.
