33rd District Senator Chuck Purgason has been replaced by 34th District Senator Charlie Shields as Chairman of a Senate Committee.
That committee two weeks ago did not move a tax break plan for the Ford Claycomo Plant forward. The senate Majority Caucus Communications Director Farrah Fite says the move is temporary.
“It’ll just be through the remainder of the special session which should probably end by either this week or the end of next week. Senator Shields has actually appointed himself as Chairman in the meantime and then he’ll remove himself and reappoint Senator Purgason after they vote on that bill,” Fite says.
Senate Leader Charlie Shields of Buchanan and Platt Counties made the move Monday morning.
“He vowed to the press that he would not let the measure pass, but a majority of the Senators support the measure and then Senator Shields decided to take the action of temporarily removing him from that post to allow the bill to advance.”
Shields will convene a Senate Committee on government accountability and fiscal oversight Tuesday at 11 in the morning. The full Senate will then meet at noon.
