The official numbers are out and it appears to have been another recording breaking year for the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. According to Ron Duggan of Captain Rons, the event organizer, this year’s total money raised was $125,000 which will be broken up between 19 local charities and all our area fire departments. That’s not the only record to be broken, this year the race had more boats and more volunteers. There were to big stories to come from the event, one being the biggest highlight of the Sheikh Hassan Al-Thani crushing the top gun by 20 miles an hour setting a new all time high of 244MPH to beat in future races. Sadly the excitement was shattered by the loss of Outerlimits Racer Mike Fiore following an accident on the water. Fiore was recovering at University Hospital in Columbia when complications arose during surgery. His race partner Joel Begin survived the crash.
