Shootout events began this past weekend with the annual mini-shootout at Ha Ha Tonka State Park. They’ll continue all this week.
– The Hall of Fame dinner will be held Tuesday night
– Wednesday is the “shootout on the strip” meet and greet
– Make-A-Wish rides are scheduled for Thursday
– The poker run will be held Friday
– The 30th anniversary Shootout will take place Saturday and Sunday

If you plan to watch the Shootout from the water, remember there are additional restrictions in place for the event. The no-wake zone will be extended from the 31.5 mile mark to the 36. The extended idle-speed area will be in effect from noon until 7pm on Saturday ONLY and will include the main channel from the 31.5 downstream to the 21 mile mark. The water patrol says the extended navigational restrictions are designed to increase safety for boaters and to help reduce property damages.
With the 30th anniversary of the Shootout just a few days away, organizers are honoring some of the men and organizations that have made the event such a success for so long. The annual Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony will be held Tuesday night at The Stables at Cannon Smoked Saloon. This year’s inductees are:
– Racers Michael “Doc” Janssen and Dennis Parvey
– Shooters 21 owner and early Shooutout organizer Rob Lauer
– Writer Jason Johnson
– Performance Boat Center
Those are some of the people that have been responsible for the Shootout’s growth. Speaking at a volunteer dinner last week, Captain Ron Duggan says it’s bigger than was ever expected.
Over 700 volunteers will be involved for this year’s Shootout. The annual meet and greet on the Bagnell Dam strip is scheduled for Wednesday. The strip will be closed to vehicle traffic from noon until 11pm. In addition, the Valley Road detour will be closed from 2-5pm when the dam itself will be close to allow the boats to get situated.
