Good news for parents in the Morgan County R-II school district….school officials say an illness in the middle school is NOT meningitis. Last week Superintendent Dr. Joyce Ryerson had sent a precautionary letter to parents warning them that they had a suspected case of meningitis. Workers at the school did extra disinfecting and cleaning in the middle school and athletic facilities. Ryerson says they’ve now been informed that the child was diagnosed with viral encephalitis, suspected to be caused by a mosquito bite. It’s believed to be an isolated case and no other individuals have been diagnosed with the illness.
