The Highway 5 bridge located north of Route P is slated for complete replacement between May 9th and June 28th.
Bob Lynch from MoDOT says at a recent forum it was suggested that the Army Corps of Engineers place a temporary bridge.
“We still have to provide approaches to that bridge and, it’s their bridge, would they do it from the liability standpoint first of all?” Lynch said. “Does it provide the profile and levelness, whatever you want to call it, to get you across the area? Does it handle all the different types of traffic, big trucks, the emergency services trucks that you’ve got?”
It was also suggested that the department avoid the summer season and Memorial Day and move the bridge replacement to November.
“The issue with going to November is were are not sure we can hold it to 53 days or 50 days because of the weather. We have more weather concerns at that time so it may go a little longer.”
MoDOT’s current plan is to reroute traffic on Highway 135 and Route J.
