The mystery has been solved. The cause of the latest sonic boom was another F-15 Strike Eagle. According to Boeing Spokesperson Shanique Manning, a test flight of an F-15 broke the sound barrier last Wednesday and caused the sonic boom that was heard and felt all across Mid-Missouri. Manning says the company doesn’t usually take that specific flight path and they don’t plan to do so very often but, because of weather conditions, air traffic controllers directed them into the Lake Area. The Boeing F-15s are sold to the Air Force under a special contract.
