Southwest Fire District personnel are sent into action over the weekend responding to, what ended up being, overlapping fire calls. That’s according to a press release issued by the district which indicates the first call, just after 3:30 Saturday afternoon, was a to a report of a barn fire and discovered the 30×50 structure fully involved. Firefighters went on the defensive to protect the surrounding area and the barn was a complete loss. While fighting the barn fire, personnel were also called to a report of smoke in the area of west-54 and Rough Road. Upon arrival there, a large natural cover fire was discovered in the area of Up-and-Down Road. Crews were on the scene of that fire for several hours. No other information about the natural cover fire is available at this time.
