A clarification to a story we ran about the cold weather rule that took effect yesterday.
The Missouri Public Service Commission’s rule says that heat related services cannot be disconnected for non-payment for certain households when temperatures are predicted to drop below 32 degrees.
In all cases, customers must register with their utility for the cold weather rule to apply.
In order to qualify, customers must be 65 years of age or older, they must be disabled to the extent that the customer has filed a form submitted by a medical physician with the utility attesting that your household must have natural gas or electric utility service to the home to maintain life or health, or the customer must have obtained a formal award letter issued from the federal government of disability benefits.
