The sentencing hearing for a 44 year old Eldon man who had pleaded guilty in a 2013 double homicide took an unexpected turn yesterday, ending with the sentencing not taking place at all. Darrell Spellmeyer had entered a guilty plea to two counts of murder in the second degree and armed criminal action back in November of last year in Morgan county circuit court for the February 2013 shooting deaths of Freddie and Carol Wilson at their home in Versailles. While the plea to the court indicated he knowingly killed the couple, Spellmeyer claimed the gun went off accidentally, calling the guilty plea for murder into question. Subsequently, Judge Kenneth Hayden did not accept the guilty plea and had the case transferred to Judge Stan Moore to now be heard in Camden County. Spellmeyer was arrested along with Garland Mitchell and Mandy Mitchell in connection to the alleged murder of Freddie and Carol Wilson.
