Turkey hunters across the state didn’t have as much luck this year. The department of conservation says this year’s spring harvest is was down by 17% over last year’s totals. Hunters took 35,784 birds this year. That includes over 1700 harvested during the two day spring youth season held April 7th and 8th. Last year’s spring harvest totaled 43,339. MDC Turkey Biologist Jason Isabelle says the state has seen poor production the last two years, resulting in fewer two-year old gobblers and a lot fewer jakes.
