In 2010, Missouri law enforcement officers make one point six million stops. Each time, they took information about the racial and ethnic background of the drivers. The 11th Annual Report on Vehicle Stops was released yesterday by the Missouri Attorney General’s office. It showed African American and Hispanic stops were down slightly, last year. The rate of stops for Hispanics is lower than that of white drivers. But the rate of vehicle searches for African American and Hispanic drivers is much higher. Once searched, a positive hit for contraband was much more likely in a white driver’s vehicle than that of any other group. The full report is available on the Attorney General’s web site.
