State Auditor Tom Schweich is accusing Governor Jay Nixon of violating the state constitution by making budget cuts in 2012. An audit was released Monday by Schweich contending the Governor should not have blocked millions of dollars of spending because state revenue exceeded estimates upon which the budget was based. Nixon withheld over 170 million dollars to cover recent flooding and the Joplin tornado. However, the report claims less than $7.8 million dollars of that was actually spent on those disasters that year. The Governor’s office has called Schweich’s conclusions inaccurate.
Below are Schweich’s Press Release and Governor Nixon’s Reply.
