Over $52 million has been dealt out by the state in various lawsuits over the last five years. $17 million of that $52 million has been paid in the last seven months, including a $9 million settlement with Brandon Ellingson’s family following his drowning. This has prompted the House to introduce a bill that would require the attorney general to present a report to the General Assembly once a month that would show a detailed report of the state legal expense fund. The House budget committee discussed the bill yesterday morning.
