Missouri is getting more money to combat problems from opioid drug abuse. The Department of Health and Human Services has announced a $10 million grant for the state’s Department of Mental Health. The money will be used to support prevention and recovery activities and to increase patient access to treatment programs. According to statistics released by Senator Roy Blunt, drug overdose deaths have surpassed motor vehicle accidents as the number one cause of accidental deaths in Missouri, with nearly three state residents dying every day from an opioid overdose in 2016.
