The Missouri Highway Patrol is releasing some statistics as part of a boating safety campaign. In 2014, 610 people died in the U.S. in boating related accidents while there were 179 boating crashes statewide and 14 of these crashes were fatal. Stacy Moser is with the Highway Patrol’s Water Division. She says alcohol is often times a contributing factor in boating accidents.
Mosher says inattention is also a leading cause for boating accidents and believes these numbers would decrease significantly if more people used safe boating practices.
