City Administrator Brenda Colter presented city code changes to the board at their Tuesday night meeting. The administrator says the first change deals with pound expenses.
“The previous ordinance we set a rate for the impoundment fee because the shelter fee fluctuates. The impoundment fee will be whatever the current rate is at the shelter. Plus there will be $40 to cover the additional expenses by the city, the mileage and handling of the animals,” said Colter.
Colter says the new rules also address how judges deal with violations.
“And then the second change is we added a section that clarifies the procedures for violation notices, but the amount of the fee is going to be left up to the municipal judge to set the reasonable cost to help offset some of the expenses.”
After being asked by an alderman, City Attorney Phil Morgan said the changes to the city code were both legal and enforceable.
