Earlier this week, The Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District issued a burn advisory due to the extremely dry weather and excessive heat that is expected to continue through the upcoming holiday week. The district is asking its citizens to delay any outdoor burning until the area receives a measurable rainfall.
Under these conditions, fire can easily move into dry grass, and heat from a fire can severely damage trees and property.
With the heat and drought, the use of fireworks are of special concern right now.
Fire Marshal Bobby Northcott recommends fireworks only be shot off in a clear flat area that is away from structures, docks, boats and cars or anything else that could catch of fire. Never shoot fireworks into wooded areas.
Northcott also recommends keeping a garden hose readily available to put out an ignition before it gets out of control.
