A local fire district has announced they’ll be asking for a levy increase in August. The Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District’s Board of Directors met earlier this month and during that meeting they approved a motion to seek a nine-cent levy increase. Chief Dennis Reilly believes the levy could be used to hire enough full-time firefighters to keep the Spruce Road station open 24/7. It would also help them with apparatus replacement and major item replacement funds. The district estimates that for someone who owns a $300,000 home, it will cost them $4.43 a month, which would be less than buying two slices of pizza.
