Large developments are good for the economy and tourism, but they also place additional burdens on first-responders. Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District is looking for a way to offset the benefits of developments with associated costs. When their board meets next week, Chief Dennis Reilly says they’ll be discussing possible “impact fees.”
The fees could apply to large resorts, industrial parks, freight terminals…or other large developments that would drastically increase their call load.
Reilly says it’s a way to recover the costs from those directly responsible for the increased demands. The issue will be discussed when the board meets Monday at 5:30 at their headquarters on Porter Mill Spring Road.
