Wildland firefighting in the Lake Area and, specifically, the Sunrise Beach Fire District receives a much-needed financial boost. Chief Dennis Reilly says the district, recently, received $3,000 in matching funds from the Missouri Department of Conservation. The funding has already been put to good use, according to Chief Reilly, with the purchase of personnel protective equipment designed specifically for fighting wildland and natural cover fires. Natural cover fires account for a significant number of the 750 calls the Sunrise Beach District responds to every year. The district covers more than 60 square miles across northern Camden and southern Morgan counties.
