A lake area community has voted to implement a ban on texting while driving. The proposal passed with a unanimous vote in Sunrise Beach Monday evening. Under their ordinance, if you are seen looking at your phone while driving, police have the authority to pull you over. If you are caught texting while driving, you could face a fine of up to $200. The ban applies to all drivers regardless of age, which is stronger than the state law, which only bans texting for those under the age of 21.
