The Sunrise Beach Planning and Zoning commission has voted to approve recommending the Board of Trustees issue a Conditional Use Permit to Magruder Limestone and Paving for a controversial asphalt plant in the quarry on Highway 5. Area residents oppose the plant, concerned about noise and odor. Magruder requested the permit after being awarded a contract to resurface and widen a 28-mile stretch of Highway 5 between Camdenton and Versailles. The job will require 100,000 tons of asphalt mix.
The Sunrise Beach Board of Trustees is expected to vote on the matter at their meeting next Monday.
