What may have been intended as a harmless gesture caused a scary situation in Sunrise Beach, prompting calls to the police, firefighters, and even bomb experts from the Highway Patrol. It started when a letter carrier found a suspicious package on the ground outside a mailbox. The package was wrapped in aluminum foil and a had a note that said “Open me, I’m not dangerous.” Police and firefighters blocked off the area until the patrol could arrive on scene.
Sunrise Beach Police Chief Jeff Campbell says the patrol used an X-ray machine and a robot to investigate the package, which turned out to be a decorative glass globe. If they’re able to figure out who left it there, that person could be in big trouble.
After the package was opened and determined to be safe, the all-clear was given and the area was reopened.
