A conspiracy to commit murder charge filed in July against a Sunrise Beach woman has been dropped in Camden County. 25-year-old Jessica Swearingen had originally been accused of trying to hire someone to help kill her diabetic stepfather by tampering with his medicine. A statement released by the prosecuting attorney’s office says there was not enough evidence to secure a finding of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt and that any further details cannot be released at this time. Swearingen says she feels vindicated but it’s still continues to be tough trying to get back to normal.
The stepfather and supposed victim in the case, Jim Cadle, says he was as shocked as anybody about the allegations.
Swearingen spent seven weeks in jail on the charge before it was dropped and says she now plans to enjoy the holidays the best she can under the circumstances.
