Good news for teachers across the Lake Area and the Show Me State.
Officials with the Missouri State Board of Education say they’re working on plans to raise teacher pay across the board.
Right now, Teachers in Missouri make almost 20% less than their peers of the same level of education, that according to the Economic Policy Institute.
Board members say they’ve adopted legislative priorities that aim to raise the minimum teacher salary from $25,000 to $35,000 by the 2024/2025 school year.
Missouri is dead last in the nation with the lowest average starting salary for teachers and 45th for teachers with experience in the field.
DESE says they’re also investing nearly $50 Million Dollars over the next 3 years in their recruitment and retention program.
